Alexandre Gavras, born in Paris on August 23, 1969, is a French producer and director.
He is the son of director Costa-Gavras and producer Michèle Ray-Gavras, and the brother of Julie Gavras and Romain Gavras.
Gavras studied film at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts. His graduation film, The Plant, won awards for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor at the New York University Student Film Festival. Back in France, he held every position on set (camera, set design, production, equipment, electrical, etc.) and ended up as an assistant director for Jean Teulé, Liria Begeja, and Tony Gatlif in film, and David Fincher, Tarsem, and Peter Smilie in advertising. He directed his first short film, Killer of Little Fishes, which garnered over 100 festival selections, 50 awards, and a César nomination.
Alongside his advertising and film work, Alexandre works with the Oh Oui! company, creating videos for their shows that have been performed at La Filature in Mulhouse, Les Subsistances in Lyon, L'Échangeur in Bagnolet, Sylvia Monfort in Paris, the Fondation Cartier, and Performing Live Arts in New York. In 2013, he created the visual creation of Julie Brochen's Whistling Psyché with Catherine Hiegel and Juliette Plumecoq-Mèche for the Théâtre national de Strasbourg and the TGP in Saint-Denis.
