Michael Gore, born March 5, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American pianist, conductor, and film composer. He is the younger brother of singer and composer Lesley Gore. In 1969, Michael Gore graduated from the Dean-Englewood School. He received a Distinguished Alumni Award there in 2004. With his lyricist Dean Pitchford, Michael Gore won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1981 for "Fame," from the film of the same name. That same year, he also won the Academy Award for Best Motion Picture Score. He also collaborated with Lawrence D. Cohen on the musical Carrie, based on Stephen King's first short story published in 1974. He also composed the theme and soundtrack for the 1983 film "Love of Endearment," starring Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger.
