Wendell Mayes was an American screenwriter and producer born on July 22, 1918, in Hayti, Missouri (United States) and died on March 28, 1992, in Santa Monica, California. He achieved success with his first screenplay, No Riders, which aired on ABC in 1955. He specialized in adapting novels for film and television. He is particularly known for his collaboration with Otto Preminger, particularly on Autopsy of a Murder (1959) and Stormy Weather (1962). He also wrote the screenplay for The Poseidon Adventure (1973) and contributed to the writing of Colonel Von Ryan's Express (1965). He died in Santa Monica of bone cancer at the age of 72.
