Ed Begley was an American actor born on March 25, 1901, in Hartford, Connecticut, and died of a heart attack on April 28, 1970, in Hollywood, California (United States). He is buried in Los Angeles (at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery). He began his career in 1931 with radio shows in Hartford and later in New York City. In 1943, he made his Broadway debut and achieved success, notably with All My Sons and Inherit the Wind. Beginning in 1947, he began a film career and, from 1950, a significant career in television dramas and soap operas. He was a character actor specialized, even confined, to roles of corrupt, intolerant, harsh, and dishonest individuals. He is the father of actor Ed Begley Jr.
