Oswald Morris, born November 22, 1915, in Ruislip (formerly Middlesex, England) and died in Dorset on March 17, 2014, was an English cinematographer. A member of the BSC, he served as its president from 1960 to 1962. Oswald Morris trained in his native country as a clapboy, then first or second assistant cameraman and camera operator, first at Fountain Studios in Wembley in the 1930s, then after World War II (during which he served in the Royal Air Force) at Pinewood Studios. He became a cinematographer on the set of Golden Salamander (1950) and ended his career (which he divided between the United Kingdom and the United States) in 1982 with The Dark Crystal. In particular, he served as director of photography for John Huston on eight films. His contribution to a French film in 1954, Monsieur Ripois, is also noteworthy. In addition to several Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography, he won one for Fiddler on the Roof (1971).
